Chapter 11

It was not difficult to convince the Dorchester brothers and Jon Endicott that the club was a smashing idea.  James and Peter told their wives that the six brothers were going to go into business together, and that gave them cause to visit frequently the house where the club would be headquartered.  The women knew only that it was to be a proper city club for gentlemen.

From the night that the Hanover cousins first proposed their plan, the six men had sex together.  It was a sample of the joys the new club would offer.  James and Peter insisted that all new members must be married men.  In that way, they believed security would not be compromised.

Although it was never intended that the club should be a money maker, they began to provide spirits to the patrons for a fee.  When it became apparent that they were reaping great revenues from this enterprise, they began to sell lubricants, body lotions, and all manner of sex toys.  Their wealth increased, and they quickly outgrew the town house.

Word spread quickly about this marvelous retreat, and their patrons included high London officials, at least one member of royalty (incognito), clergymen, and the famous Oscar Wilde.  It was obvious early on that they either had to stop growing or make a move.  It was Vic who came up with a solution.

“Jon and I own a private island,” he reminded everyone.  “Let’s turn it into a resort.  We’ll build a hotel there for gentlemen to vacation.  There will be no authorities to worry about.  We are the law there.  Of course, this great distance will attract single men more than married men, and we will have to change our rules.  We can continue to operate the London house on a smaller scale with the existing rules.”

“I love the idea,” Peter said, but how will we manage to build on the island?”

“It’s only thirty miles from the mainland.  We’ll ship in all the materials, and the workmen can live in tents until the hotel is completed.”

“How about managing the resort?” Peter asked.  “James and I would find it difficult to leave London, and it’s not the sort of place we can vacation with our families.”

“You and James can manage the London House.  The rest of us can take turns between the island and the town house,” Vic stated.  Jon, Martin and Samuel all nodded in agreement.

From the first night that the plan was devised it took a year to design the resort and work out the engineering for the sanitary requirements.  It took another year to plan out the logistics of ordering all the materials and arranging for shipment to the island.  It took three more years to build the resort and ready it for occupancy.

The first construction challenge was to clear enough jungle to accommodate the hotel.  The jungle was cleared right to the mountain lake and waterfall, which would offer a beautiful setting for the back of the resort.  The front would face the ocean and its pristine beach.  Vic managed to rescue several rocks from both their first and second shelters, and he insisted that the architects use these rocks in constructing the front steps.

The hotel boasted twenty-five luxurious rooms, each with indoor baths, a recent innovation.  A beautiful dining room faced the ocean.  A swimming pool graced the back of the building.  A huge sign spelled out pool rules and in bold letters at the bottom it read, “CLOTHING OPTIONAL.”  There were also card rooms and smoking rooms for the guests to enjoy.  Behind the scenes were a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, linen closets and whatever it took to run a first class hotel.  A small boutique was built off the main lobby to sell exotic lubricants, sex toys, whips, hand cuffs and other sadomasochistic devices.  Cooks, clerks and service personnel were recruited from London’s secret homosexual society.  They were also for hire by the guests for sex.  These people were delighted to get away from London’s harsh laws to a place of safety.  A separate smaller building was built to house the staff.  The owners reserved three of these smaller rooms for themselves.

They built a pier to accommodate the steamers which would bring the guests by sea.  The pier also was designed to receive the shuttles which would bring clients from the mainland.  The hotel was scheduled to open one week before Christmas 1895.

Much as they would have liked to have been there, Peter and James needed to be home to celebrate the Yuletide with their families.  Jon and the Dorchester brothers arranged for passage to Eden and would arrive a few days before the opening.  The staff was already on hand, and all the workmen, except a few homosexual maintenance men, had returned to London by the time they arrived.

Word had spread rapidly around London of the wonders of this island paradise.  Brochures, with pictures of the hotel, were distributed generously at the town house and around the city.  They were booked solid until the end of May, with a smattering of reservations during the hot summer months.  There was every expectation that exiting guests would rebook reservations for future vacations before they left the island.

On the night they arrived, while Martin and Samuel were unpacking, Vic and Jon strolled down to their lake.  The lake was now lined with two seater benches.  They sat down on one of them and took each other’s hands.

“This boggles my mind,” Jon said.  “I can’t believe this at all.”

“I know,” Vic said.  He leaned over and kissed Jon chastely on the cheek.  Then he stood and started to disrobe.

“What are you doing?” Jon giggled.

“It’s clothing optional here, isn’t it.?” Vic explained.

“It always has been,” Jon reminded Vic.  He stood also and removed his clothing.

The two men embraced and fell to the sandy lake front beach.  They made love all night under the stars, with freedom and abandonment, just as they had all those years ago.

The End.
