CHAPTER THREE

~~~ THE GREAT PYRAMID ~~~
Let's NOW LOOK AT Diagram #3, which represents an ‘X-Ray’ view of the Great Pyramid on the Giza Plateau across the Nile River from the mega-metropolis of modern Cairo.  The triangular figure is in the perspective of looking Westward into the pyramid from its Eastern face.
(Many different theories have been developed as to when, how, and why the Great Pyramid was built, and I don’t wish to take the time to familiarize you with all the diverse speculations.  But I will now share with you what seems logical and natural to me at this time.)
It is my belief that the Ancient Builders ( to be touched upon later) proposed to erect a symbol or model of both Exoteric and Esoteric Humankind, which monument would stand for untold centuries, silently witnessing to the Eternality of manifested Life.
Each of the four sides of the pyramid is called a 'face' and each face faces one of the true Cardinal Directions more accurately than any other building known today.
Permit me to take you on a mental journey into the interior of the Great Pyramid, explaining as we progress, what the Ancients may have intended for us to experience.
Approaching the pyramid, we discover that the entrance to the interior is some distance up the North Face, and in order to achieve our goal of discovery, we, as Humanity, turn our backs on the Psychic, Soul, Sensitive qualities of the Natural energies of the North, and begin the arduous physical journey, facing South (at Point A), slowly but ever progressing upward on the outer edges of Life itself.  From the very base of the structure, standing on the shifting sand of the Giza Desert upon which the Pyramid of Life was built, it is impossible to see the opening to the interior—though little do we care, for just getting to the entrance is our sole (soul) concern for the moment.  But we know the opening is there—somewhere—and so we continue on, ever upward.
The higher up the face of the pyramid we go, the broader our horizons become, and the greater our perspective of everything we've left behind and below us.
Then, at some definite point in our slow progress upward, totally unexpected but long-hoped-for, we come face to face (at Point B) with an opportunity of cherished, restful respite, for there is a threshold, an opening, an entrance into Life itself.  Deep … and dark … and mysterious … we hesitate.  Do we dare to enter into the Unknown?  Or rather, do we wish to remain outside in the heat of the desert Sun surrounded by everything with which we are familiar?
A sense of discovery, as well as Destiny, comes over us;  we cautiously step into the mysterious inner side of Life.
Immediately, the searing heat of the desert vanishes, and a comfortable coolness pervades the very air that we breathe.  The inner passageway descends … we know not where … and as we progress deeper and deeper into Life, we become more and more conscious of our breathing, our heartbeats, our feelings, our emotions—everything.  The welcomed quietude suddenly becomes filled with sounds, with rumblings, with murmurings, with music from within our very own selves.
Eventually, the passage (known as the Descending Passage and extending from Point B to Point F) levels out (at Point C) but only for a very short distance—on an even keel, so to speak, and we discover that we have a decision to make.  Here, the passage splits into two passages—one, known as the Ascending Passage, going higher into the interior (from Point C to Point D), and the other (the continuation of the Descending Passage) going deeper through the interior of the stone pyramid and into the bedrock, itself.  Desiring to attain our Highest Good, we decide on the Upward Path, being fully convinced that the Downward Path can only lead to the dark and heavy depths of Existence.
Once again we continue our inner journey, onward and upward, higher and higher, until the passage once again levels off (at Point D).  A few steps farther and we find ourselves no longer in the low, confining horizontal passageway, but in a large room (thirty-nine feet long [East and West] by seventeen feet wide [North and South] by nineteen feet high).  It is decoratively naked except for a rough-hewn rectangular granite coffer, with no lid and with one upper corner broken.  It appears that it was never intended to be used as a sarcophagus, and it is located at the far Western end of the room which has come to be known as the 'King's Chamber.'
As you will recall, since we left the sandy desert floor, we have continually progressed while facing South (the Physical, Form realms—outer and inner).  We must now turn and face West (the Mental realms) in order to view the coffer.  Facing West, we speculate (a mental faculty) that the open coffer must be there for some learning experience.
With open Mind, we approach the coffer and discern that it lies North/South lengthwise, and can be used for out-of-body experiences (by lying in it with the head to the North), or for physical rest and/or healing (by lying in it with he head to the South).
Now, take a few moments and imagine yourself lying in the coffer in whichever direction you choose …
After your quiet experience, we decide to return to the outer world again, and so, we now must face East (the Spiritual realms).  Being filled with vital inspiration and understanding, we cross the King's Chamber, and turn once again facing North (the Soulic realms of Wisdom), to enter the passageway leading us from Super-Consciousness down to Sub-Consciousness, then up to outer Consciousness, and down onto the worldly plane of the desert.
Is there a coincidence as to the Metaphysical meanings of the Cardinal Directions and the architectural design of the Great Pyramid of Giza?  I think not!
